From Cana to the Cross - When Life Doesn’t Make Sense - Jan 22 2012
John 2:12-25 tells the story of Jesus clearing the temple. We learn that Jesus’ signs and actions elicit two kinds of belief: The belief of his disciples and the belief of the many. The disciples spent three years with Jesus and ‘believed’ in Him without really ‘getting it’. They had to persevere in their belief until God brought his plan together and it made sense. We face this same challenge to our belief, and we are called to follow Jesus even when we don’t ‘get it’. The many ‘believed’, but it was for their own purposes. What can we learn from all of this? Jesus requires his followers to trust what they know of Him, not what they want from Him. When God’s ways don’t make sense to us, when they don’t feet what we expected, we need to ask ourselves “Do we trust Him?”.
