<title>Our Unique Savior</title>
<itunes:author>Okotoks Evangelical Free Church</itunes:author>
<itunes:subtitle>Our Unique Savior</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>When we struggle to understand God or his plans, we are not allone in that. The Transfiguration of Jesus happened to wake the disciples up to Jesus&#8217; message concerning his death and resurrection. It establishes his uniqueness and the Father makes sure they know who he is and that what he says is a message from God.</itunes:summary>

<title>The Cost of Compassion</title>
<itunes:author>Okotoks Evangelical Free Church</itunes:author>
<itunes:subtitle>The Cost of Compassion</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>In the feeding of the 5000, we&#8217;re often so enthralled by the miracle we forget to look for the lesson. The disciples were being taught something here about God&#8217;s mission and the compassion needed to carry it out. Compassion will come before our convenience when it comes to God&#8217;s mission.</itunes:summary>

<title>No other Way! No other Person!</title>
<itunes:author>Okotoks Evangelical Free Church</itunes:author>
<itunes:subtitle>No other Way! No other Person!</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>Both Mary and the Scribes had views of Jesus that were off the mark. Jesus addresses both their mistakes in this passage. Mary had expectations and a picture in her mind of how her son, the Messiah, would fulfill his destiny. The Scribes relegated Jesus and his power to the realm of the demonic and sorcery. Jesus addresses them both. God&#8217;s plan was the only one he would follow and he was the only one who could bring it into being.</itunes:summary>

<title>When life doesn&#8217;t make sense?</title>
<itunes:author>Okotoks Evangelical Free Church</itunes:author>
<itunes:subtitle>When life doesn&#8217;t make sense?</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>In this passage, two groups of people believe in Jesus. His disciples are contrasted with &#8216;the many&#8217; who he does not entrust himself to. What was the difference in belief between these two groups? That&#8217;s what this study is about. The disciples trusted Jesus even when they didn&#8217;t understand what he meant by many of his statements and why he did the things he did. They trusted him regardless and the understanding came later.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Jesus&#8217; miracle of turning water into wine was not really about the need at the wedding banquet. It was a &#8216;sign&#8217; &#45; as John always refers to Jesus&#8217; miraculous works. This sign declares an end to a religion of rituals and the introduction of something new &#45; a personal relationship with God.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Jesus&#8217; temptation attacked him at the core of his being. Would he trust what he had been told and experienced? Would he embrace who he was? We face the same temptation to doubt who we are as God&#8217;s children and heirs with Christ. We learn from Jesus what we must do to have any chance at a faithful repsonse to doubt.</itunes:summary>

<title>Testing: An opportunity for growth</title>
<itunes:author>Okotoks Evangelical Free Church</itunes:author>
<itunes:subtitle>Testing: An opportunity for growth</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>Abraham cultivated his faith by how he thought and acted. This was very evident in this story of God&#8217;s testing of his faith. Isaac was the fulfillment of the promise. God&#8217;s bizarre request to sacrifice Isaac would push Abraham to a place of trust he had never experienced before. And, there is a direct relationship between the growth of our faith and our willingness to abandon for God everything we hold dear or rely on.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:subtitle>When it&#8217;s personal, It&#8217;s real</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>Both Sarah and Abraham laughed when God told them they would have a son at the ages of 90 and 100 respectively. Each expressed their doubts in different ways but one never lost sight of the one who gave the promise while the other tried to cover up her doubts by lying to him. What was missing? It&#8217;s the difference between knowing &#8216;about&#8217; God and &#8216;knowing&#8217; God. One generates trust, the other fear.</itunes:summary>

Peter needed to know that our failures are not the end of the story. He needed to know that the power of the resurrection could change his life. The because of the resurrection, he had hope and future. And so do you.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Paul now begins to illustrate how our new life experience as Light (as forgiven followers of Jesus) changes every relationship we have. He begins with the marriage relationship. There are implications here for both the married and the single among us. It is possible to get our male / female relationships started off on the right foot ... or the wrong one. We are called to serve one another in submission and sacrifice. Here we&#8217;ll talk about what this looks like in the marriage relationship.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>When the 12 spies returned from checking out the promised land, the obstacles became so big they actually obscured the blessing God had promised them. The land WAS exactly as God said &#8216;but&#8217;. The reports and desire for rebellion were the natural consequences of what they did and where they allowed their minds to go. It was a recipe for disaster. We can learn from their experience and disaster. When the obstacles threaten to obscure God&#8217;s blessing &#45; his promises &#45; remember God&#8217;s wonders. <itunes:summary>We all travel with our baggage of ‘expectations’. Whether we’re starting a new job, volunteering in some ministry, or just relating to another person … or to God. We have underlying expectations for how that person (or job) will impact our life and what that person (or job) will be like. So, what happens when our experience isn’t what we expected? … When that person lets you down because you were expecting something else to happen? That was the experience of both Israel and Moses in Exodus chapters 5&#45;6. And God speaks into our lives as he spoke into theirs … if we’re willing to hear him.

<itunes:summary>As Christians God is forming the heart of Christ in us. Therefore, our lives and relationships ought to reflect the work God is doing in us. This is especially true for the most intimate of relationships &#45; that of the husband and wife. The Spirit within us will generate both a radical love and radical grace towards one another ... if we will live incarnationally with one another.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Our culture is not oriented towards &#8216;serving&#8217;. Service might be important, but only in how it benefits the bottom line by serving the human desire to be treated like a king. We live for ourselves and our benefit. But, in the economy of the Kingdom of God, this orientation of &#8216;What&#8217;s in it for me?&#8217; has not place. Servanthood is the hallmark of a follower of Jesus because that&#8217;s how Jesus lived. The incarnational life will reflect the same value and focus as the one we claim to follow.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>In v.1&#45;10, Paul makes sure his readers know that we are all inadequate in ourselves to accomplish, discover, or dream up our own salvation &#45; reconciliation with God. Then, in v.11&#45;22, Paul makes sure we understand how inadequate both the near and the far (the insiders and the outsiders) are on their own. Even though some have a deeper understanding of God&#8217;s plans and work than others, both find themselves falling short of salvation (reconciliation) without Christ stepping in. Jesus creates something new that encompasses both the far and the near. That new thing is the church of Jesus Christ.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:subtitle>David: Serve a Living God</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>When we read the story of David and Goliath in 1 Samuel 17, we often forget to ask the most important question &#45; Just how did David ever &#8216;expect&#8217; to defeat Goliath? He offers to fight him, but why would he? What did he know that we need to know? In this study, we learn what we need to know before we&#8217;ll ever expect the impossible as David did.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Joshua challenges Israel as they move in to farm their land, graze their sheep, build their homes. If they are to live for God they need to know their options and make a choice (choose a side). Joshua points out what their options are and they are very similar to the ones we face today. Then he challenges them to &#8216;choose this day whom you will serve&#8217;.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>What was the focus of Joseph&#8217;s faith that he could say, &#8216;What you planned to hurt me, God planned for good&#8217; (Genesis 50:20)? His suffering as a result of their one hateful act went on for years&#8230; slave, put in prison, forgotten. It&#8217;s a sad story. And yet, Joseph saw it all through eyes of faith. He knew God&#8217;s promise would be fulfilled no matter what he experienced. Now that&#8217;s a legacy of faith.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:subtitle>Empty Me</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>Our biggest problem as human beings (our basic &#8216;sin&#8217;) is that we have put &#8216;me&#8217; on a pedestal. As we consider the empty cross and the empty tomb&#8217;s significance for us, we find that &#8216;me&#8217; keeps getting in the way of us truly enjoying the benefits of the resurrection. It&#8217;s not enough to just celebrate a religious belief. This is one that needs to change the way we live. That&#8217;s the power of the resurrection and getting &#8216;me&#8217; off the pedestal is essential for this to happen. James 4 helps us see the problem and the fix.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>The disciples didn&#8217;t understand the significance of the Resurrection until after Pentecost. Even at the beginning of Acts, they thought Jesus would establish an earthly kingdom for Israel at that time. But, after Pentecost, they realized that the empty tomb provided us with the power to live ... now and into the future.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:subtitle>Empty Cross</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>The cross has not always been a symbol of forgiveness and hope. For the early disciples, it brought on a severe case of discouragement. The cross was not what they expected for their Messiah. But, they did come to understand what Jesus meant when he cried, &#8216;It is finished&#8217; from the cross. The cros was the completion of God&#8217;s redemption plan for sinful rebellious human beings.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:subtitle>Prayer Provides the Power to Produce</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>After Paul gives a series of commands (final instructions) for the church at the end of his letter, he prays for them. This prayer (v.23&#45;24) gives us insight into how we can carry out the instructions (expectations) God has for the church. And, as usual, the responsibilities God gives his people are always dependent upon God&#8217;s power at work in us to carry them out.</itunes:summary>
